Morganville Vampires

The Morganville Vampires is a series of young adult urban fantasy/vampire novels written by Rachel Caine. The novels feature Claire Danvers, a student at Texas Prairie University, and her housemates in the vampire-controlled city of Morganville, Texas. While the mayor of Morganville is human, unbeknownst to most of the population the town is actually run in cooperation with a group of vampires. Morganville is also home to an unusually large number of second-hand thrift stores.

Several of the novels have made the New York Times bestseller list. In September 2009, Caine announced that she had signed a contract with Signet to write books 10, 11, and 12 in the series. In January 2010, she revealed that beginning with book 9, Ghost Town, novels in this series will first be released in hardback.

The series takes place in the small college town of Morganville, Texas. Claire finished high school early and is attending Texas Prairie University (aka TPEwww) at the tender age of 16. Her parents wanted to keep her close to home rather than shipping their young genius off to MIT or Yale. Claire is having trouble adjusting to college life, because of a gang of girls that keep tormenting her. One day it goes too far and Claire is pushed down the stairs and badly injured. She has to find someplace else to live other than the dorm or her life could be at risk.
Claire’s chance to get out arrives in the form of an ad looking for a fourth roommate in an off campus house. Claire arrives at the house bruised, bloodied and in tears. Eve, one of the roommates takes pity on Claire and invites her in. The other roommate Shane seems to like her as well but they have to get final approval from Michael, the owner of Glass House. He reluctantly allows Claire to stay even though she is underage. They know it’s not safe out there for Claire and she finds out why when Eve explains that Morganville is run by vampires and that the gang of girls tormenting her are vampires as well. The only protection they have is to stay inside the Glass House which has some secrets of its own.
Claire is determined not to quit school and run away, but the only way she can stay is if she can find protection from the vampires. If Claire can find the one thing they want most, she can ensure her safety and that of her new friends. Deciding who to trust in the deadly game of vampire politics will be her biggest challenge.
